The "fly-in-the-ointment" of f2.8 Canter 35 serial numbers

 

The vast majority of evidence suggests that f/2.8 Canter 35 serial numbers started at 80000. It's a logical place to begin because the highest known Super 35 number is 71585, and the lowest observed number for a Canter "was" 80166.

However, this neat and tidy presumption has been upset by the discovery of 50033! I can offer no explanation.
